The practice was founded in October 1994 by Johann Strauss and Julian Scher. Johann had been a partner at Webber Wentzel for over 20 years and Julian completed his articles with Johann as his Principal.

Johann brought to the firm many years of fine commercial and litigation experience in addition to him being a wonderful human being. Johann sadly passed away in 2011 but his spirit and legacy remain with the firm to this day.

Directors: Julian, Lynette, Nandini and Richard are supported by two competent young conveyancers. Our structure is open and constructive with support being provided at all levels.

Julian was articled and an associate at Webber Wentzel. Subsequently, Julian expanded his experience spending a few years at UAL Merchant Bank. Julian’s focus is predominantly on the commercial aspects of property development, sectional title, property litigation, town planning work and conveyancing.

Julian went to Westville Boys’ High and Wits University and is married with three children. Julian hosted the legal show on Radio 702 for many years and remains one of their regular contributing experts. Julian relaxes when driving his classic cars or listening to his extensive music collection.

Lynette completed articles at Strauss Scher in 1995 and became a director of the firm in 2000.

Lynette is the firm’s lead conveyancer with a wealth of conveyancing experience, including in the establishment of townships and sectional title schemes.

Lynette went to Randpark High School and Wits University and is married with two children. Lynette loves to read, travel with her family and enjoys the outdoors.

Nandini joined Strauss Scher in 2010 when she was mentored by and articled to Julian Scher. Nandini was admitted as an attorney in 2012, a conveyancer in 2013 and a notary public in 2017.

Nandini works very closely with Lynette in her conveyancing practice and, in particular, looks after one of the major bank clients. Nandini also assists Julian from time to time. Nandini is married and enjoys cooking and running.

Richard articled at Webber Wentzel where he was appointed as an associate. It was at Webber Wentzel that he gained invaluable experience in the spheres of Dispute Resolution and Public Interest Law.

Pursuant to his passion for all aspects of property law, Richard is a conveyancer and notary public and joined Strauss Scher in early 2017. Richard’s expertise includes all aspects of commercial property development law, conveyancing and litigation. Richard is an ultra-distance running fanatic and, in his spare time, can be found on the road or trail training for his next event.

Richard is married with two children and he was appointed as a director in July 2021.

Mary joined Strauss Scher in 2004 after having matriculated from St Catherine’s Convent in Florida.

Mary obtained her B.Comm at the University of Witwatersrand and completed her LLB at University of South Africa in 2001.

Mary is a conveyancer and a notary public. Mary has lived in Johannesburg all her life, is married and her extra-curricular activities include diving, hiking and listening to music.
